BIOGRAPHY
My Biography during the past 35 years between 1970 and 2006 in the Hong Kong Police Force
1970
I joined the Royal Hong Kong Police Force
1974 – 1979 FIRST BATCH OF SDU, ASU MEMBERS
Looking back, I recalled that I was among the first 32 officers joining the Special Duties Unit (SDU-Flying Tiger Unit) when it was established in April 1974. At that time, I had to meet demanding physical training for at least four hours a day and devote the rest of my time to weapons training.
When the Force planned to set up its Airport Security Unit (ASU), it selected former SDU members to come forward to help establish the ASU. It was against this background that I, who worked as a crime investigator in Wong Tai Sin District, was tasked with the important job of helping to train officers to take up the airport security work.
1979 – COMMISSIONER COMMENDATION
What I remembered most during my career was the shooting case in Oi Man Commercial Complex, Ho Man Tin, on September 7, 1981. At that time, I was a crime investigator in the Kowloon West Regional Headquarters. I myself fired three shots during an exchange of fire with the six gangsters who were then arrested. Following the incident, I received a Commissioner’s Commendation for my ‘courage and devotion of duty of an exceptionally high order displayed during an exchange of fire armed criminal’. The Commissioner, Mr. Roy Henry, also presented me with a Commissioner’s lanyard.
1989 - ORGANIZED CRIME AND TRIAD BUREAU
In the 35 years of service, I spent for over 30 years in the crime stream in several of units- Regional Crime Unit in Kowloon and South New Territories. When I was promoted to the rank of Station Sergeant, I was transfer to the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau and spent for whole 10 odd years.
1998 - TRIAD EXPERT
During my 35 years of service in the Force, I spent more than a decade in different posts relating to organized and serious crime. I am a Triad Expert in the Force and have given evidence in court in more than 30 cases since 1998 on a wide range of triad matters, including the history and development of triad societies, rituals oaths, hand signs, poetry, triad slang, etc.
2000 - COMPUTER STUDY
In 1998, I was computer ‘idiot’ – I know nothing about it. So, to grow with the times, I enrolled in computer courses in Hong Kong Productivity Council to learn computer software and network design in 2000 with a Diploma obtained and in 2003 I got a certificate of Web and Multimedia Publishing from the Chinese University. Now, I can perfectly write down computer instructions in HTML and can discuss with you the pros and cons of different software packages such as Flash and Java.
